When Thinking Becomes Overthinking
We all think. Sometimes a little too much. You send a message to a friend, and they don't reply for a few hours. Suddenly, your brain starts asking, “Did I say something wrong? Are they upset with me?” Before you know it, you've created an entire story in your head.
That’s when thinking can turn into overthinking.
Thinking can help us figure things out, but overthinking often keeps us going in circles.
Next time you feel stuck in your thoughts, try the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding exercise: notice 5 things you can see, 4 you can touch, 3 you can hear, 2 you can smell, and 1 you can taste. It can help bring your attention back to the present moment.
Remember, you don't have to solve every thought your mind creates. Not every story your mind tells you is true.
